About the Event:
Join Dyslexia Decoded BC for this in-person focused and supportive session designed specifically for parents of dyslexic students. This workshop explores how students learn, the cognitive "roadblocks" that can get in the way, and the critical role executive function skills play in success at school and in life.
You'll gain actionable insights into:
How we learn and process information.
The role of working memory and how it can be impacted both positively & negatively.
How a learning task's design can lead to cognitive overload.
Dr. Thomas Brown’s Executive Function Model and its relevance for dyslexic learners.
How to recognize Executive Function weaknesses at school and home.
How to shift the narrative from frustration to empathy & empowerment.
Featured Speaker: Laura Gardner Berry
A life-long learner, Laura recently completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in LearningDifferences and Neurodiversity with a specialization in Executive Function through LandmarkCollege’s Institute for Research and Training. As both a teacher and a parent of children withlearning differences, Laura is committed to doing what is right for students. Laura currentlyworks as an Executive Function Coach with Reframe Education and as a private tutor. Her deep understanding of learning differences and her lived experience as both an educator and advocate for her own children drives her passion for helping students reach their potential, both at school and in life.
