Public Lecture with Sir Nick Gibb: How England Reversed Educational Declines
Described by journalists as “the most influential schools minister in England’s history,” the Right Honourable Sir Nick Gibb is a former Minister of State for Schools in the United Kingdom. He served in the role for 10 years under four different prime ministers, until 2023.
As Schools Minister, Gibb oversaw a series of major educational reforms in England, which led to significant improvements in England’s performance on international tests, reversing a trend of decline. England recently ranked fourth in the world on PIRLS, an international assessment of reading achievement among elementary school students, and has also seen substantial improvements in mathematics.
Gibb is co-author of the book Reforming Lessons: Why English Schools Have Improved Since 2010 and How This Was Achieved. In this public lecture, Sir Nick Gibb will discuss England’s educational reforms, the rationale behind them, and how they contributed to improvements in student achievement.
