Offer your own FUNdraising event!
Planning a fundraising event is a great way to do something you enjoy with your community while raising funds for a great cause. Your donation will go directly to the costs of our work advocating for change and supporting kids and families with dyslexia.
Event ideas
Your event can be anything you like. We always suggest doing something that you’re excited and passionate about! Some examples could include:
- Run a lemonade stand or have a bake sale
- Have a garage sale and donate the proceeds
- Host a sports tournament and make the entry fee a donation
- Host a craft day and ask people for donations
- Create a team and join us in-person or virtually for our 5k or marathon run
- Have a party and remind people to give to support kids with dyslexia
How to ask for donations
We know that asking friends and family for donations can sound hard, but we promise it’s easy once you do it! Here are some tips to help.
- Decide on how you want to ask for donations, either online, through a custom event page (contact us for help with this), or by cash.
- Send information to your friends, family, and anyone you want to attend. Tell them all about your exciting event, including the date, time, location, and a request for donations.
- Follow up with anyone who hasn’t responded a week before your event. Remind them that even if they can’t attend, they can give a donation.
- Post about your event with the donation link online and on your social media.
- Ask for donations during the event. We suggest at the start, the middle, and the end.
- Print out a QR code or the donation link and place it prominently so that people can easily donate during your event.
- Send out a “thank you for attending” message after the event and remind everyone that they can still donate.
Have fun!
We hope that you have a ton of fun during your FUNdraising event! Please don’t hesitate to email us if you have any questions about how to run your event, how to get materials, or to set up a fundraising page for you. We’re here to help.
We’d also love to see photos from your event so we can recognize your hard work and share in the fun; you can send them to us using this form. Thank you for fundraising to support our work and to help kids and families with dyslexia across the country!
