An expert panel discussion with Joanna Barbousas\, John Mighton and Anita Archer will follow Sir Gibb’s presentation. \nThis event is proudly sponsored by the University of Winnipeg Department of Mathematics and Statistics\, Dyslexia Canada\, and La Trobe University\, School of Education. \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required. This is an in-person event\, and it will not be recorded. \nRegister here \nPublic Lecture with Sir Nick Gibb: How England Reversed Educational Declines\nDescribed by journalists as “the most influential schools minister in England’s history\,” the Right Honourable Sir Nick Gibb is a former Minister of State for Schools in the United Kingdom. He served in the role for 10 years under four different prime ministers\, until 2023. \nAs Schools Minister\, Gibb oversaw a series of major educational reforms in England\, which led to significant improvements in England’s performance on international tests\, reversing a trend of decline. DESCRIPTION:October is Dyslexia Awareness Month\, a time to raise awareness and show support for people with dyslexia across Canada. Each October\, buildings and monuments across the country light up red for dyslexia awareness. \nOn October 30th\, Vancouver City Hall and the Burrard Street Bridge will light up in red to raise dyslexia awareness. \nGather your family and friends and visit one of these landmarks to show your support for people with dyslexia. Together\, let’s help people with dyslexia feel seen\, supported and understood this October. \nHere’s how to participate:\n1. Wear red and take a photo in front of the illuminated landmark.\n2. Spread awareness by sharing your photo on social media using #dyslexiaCAN and including your own message of support.\n3. Share with us! Submit your photos and videos so Dyslexia Canada can share them too. \nBring Dyslexia Awareness to Your Community\nIf there is a building or monument in your community that you would like to see lit up this year\, you can request it directly with the staff who manage the lighting.
