SUMMARY:Reading for All: Research\, Practice\, and Policy in Conversation
DESCRIPTION:What does it take to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn to read? \nThe Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and Dyslexia Canada invite you to Reading for All: Research\, Practice\, and Policy in Conversation\, a research forum bringing together researchers and educators to explore how evidence can strengthen literacy education for all students. \nIn 2012\, the Supreme Court of Canada affirmed that learning to read is a basic human right\, not a privilege. The Ontario Human Rights Commission’s subsequent Right to Read inquiry underscored the importance of strong curriculum and instruction\, early screening\, timely interventions\, and professional assessment in ensuring that all students have the opportunity to become successful readers. \nReading for All will bring together researchers and educators to explore how research can inform practice and policy\, and how we can strengthen literacy education for all students. \nThe forum will focus on four interconnected areas:\n\nCurriculum and Classroom Instruction: Evidence-based approaches to teaching reading.\nAssessment and Screening: Early identification of reading difficulties and impairment.\nInterventions: Effective\, evidence-based support for students who struggle with reading.\nTeacher Preparation: Equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to teach reading effectively.\n\nThe program will feature two moderated panel discussions\, with a complimentary lunch and networking session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Together\, these conversations will provide opportunities to exchange research and perspectives\, connect evidence with practice and policy\, and identify priorities for collaboration and future research. \nWe hope you will join us and contribute your perspective to this important conversation about advancing evidence-based literacy education and ensuring every student has the opportunity to learn to read. \nSpace is limited\, so we encourage you to register early to reserve your spot.

DESCRIPTION:Dyslexia Canada is pleased to offer this support group to families in Manitoba\, moderated by Tianna Voort and Carrie Wood. \nAll are welcome\, but monthly registration is required. Activities and supervision will be provided for children attending. \nRegister for the November meeting here \n2026 session dates: September 19th\, October 17th\, November 21st \n2027 session dates: February 2oth \, April 10th\, May 15th \nLocation: Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba\, 609 Erin Street\, Winnipeg\, MB\, R3G 2W1 \nMeeting schedule: \n\n12:30–1:00 PM | New to the Support Group?\nThis first 30-minute session is for those who are new to the support group. If you are not new to the group\, you are welcome to join us. This portion is specifically for caregivers who are new to the group and want to learn the basics about dyslexia and what it can mean for their child. \n\nWe’re hoping some of our returning families will sign up to help lead the first 30 minutes of one of these sessions. We’ll send out more information about signing up shortly.\n\n\n1:00–1:15 PM | Break\n1:15–2:45 PM | Advocacy & Deeper Discussion\nWe’ll use this time to dive deeper into personal advocacy\, systemic advocacy\, current issues\, and supporting one another as we navigate the education system.\n\nAll sessions are in person and will not be recorded.
