SUMMARY:The Right to Read: Transforming Literacy Outcomes in Saskatchewan
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Due to strong interest and feedback from the community\, we have expanded the program and organized the event into two consecutive sessions. \nDyslexia Canada welcomes educators\, families\, and community members to join us for discussion and learning about the Right to Read and educational equity in Saskatchewan. The event will be broken into two parts\, and attendees are welcome to attend either or both sessions. \nThe first part will provide important context. We will discuss key changes happening in literacy instruction nationally and in Saskatchewan\, and hear updates from representatives of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission on the Equitable Education for Students with Reading Disabilities report\, as well as from representatives of the Ministry of Education on changes underway in Saskatchewan schools. \nFollowing a refreshment break\, the second session will provide more detail\, focusing on understanding dyslexia\, what it is\, and what students need to succeed. We will explore common myths and misconceptions\, outline what effective support looks like\, and share practical strategies that families and educators can use to support students at home and in the classroom. \nAgenda: Tuesday\, May 5\, Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina\n1:00 to 3:15 p.m. – Right to Read and Educational Equity in Saskatchewan \n3:15 to 4:00 p.m. – Refreshment break \n4:00 pm to 5:30 p.m. – Understanding Dyslexia \n\n\n \n Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n \n Enter Email\n \n \n \n Confirm Email\n \n \n Including yourself\, how many people will be attending?(Required)Please enter a number from 1 to 10.What would you like to gain from this workshop? SUMMARY:researchED Calgary
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Una Malcolm at researchED Calgary\, where she’ll share a talk\, What Works? Making Instructional Decisions from Research. \nEducators are expected to use evidence-based practice\, but that depends on understanding what research actually tells us about instruction. It’s not always straightforward. In this session\, we will look at how to read research with a sharper lens. What question was the study designed to answer? What can we actually conclude from the findings? What instructional decisions can we make? \nWe’ll unpack common misinterpretations\, including when studies about relationships or prediction get stretched into claims about what to teach. You’ll leave with a simple\, practical way to evaluate research and make instructional decisions that are grounded in the right kind of evidence.
