We are pleased to share an upcoming event featuring one of the recipients of the 2024 Dyslexia Canada Educational Excellence Award. Evergreen School Division in Gimli, Manitoba, will be featured in a panel discussion highlighting the work they have done to improve student outcomes through evidence-aligned literacy instruction.
The free online event, From Evidence to Achievement, will take place on March 23, 2026, at 7:00 pm Eastern and is hosted by Signal Education Research Network.
Evergreen School Division received the Dyslexia Canada Educational Excellence Award in recognition of its leadership in educational innovation and its commitment to improving literacy outcomes. In 2022, the division made significant changes to its early literacy program, implementing explicit and direct instruction, structured literacy approaches, and a strong response to intervention system.
The results have been notable. According to the most recent provincial data (2024 to 2025):
-
Grade 3 students meeting expectations on provincial reading assessments
Manitoba: 45% | Evergreen: 60% -
Grade 8 students meeting expectations on provincial writing assessments
Manitoba: 44% | Evergreen: 53% -
Pre Calculus 12 average provincial test score
Manitoba: 63% | Evergreen: 81%
The panel will feature leaders from Evergreen School Division, including Jess Worden and Scott Hill, who will share how these changes were implemented and what they have learned through the process.
The discussion will be facilitated by Jeanne Sinclair (Memorial University) and Joelle Rodway (Ontario Tech University).
The event is designed for educators, school leaders, system leaders, and researchers interested in district-level improvement and data-informed practice.
We encourage educators and system leaders to attend and hear directly from the Evergreen team about the work that led to these results.
