Supporting the Right to Read in Quebec Anglophone Schools

May 20, 2026 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT

Recently, Dyslexia Canada has heard from many educators, families, and community members in Quebec who are concerned about the lack of progress toward evidence-aligned reading instruction in English-language schools.

While Quebec has updated the curriculum for French first-language students to better reflect current research on reading instruction, there has not yet been a similar change to support instruction in anglophone schools. Many have reached out asking how they can help advocate for meaningful change.

In response, Dyslexia Canada is hosting a kickoff meeting to connect educators, families, school leaders, and advocates from across the province who are interested in supporting the Right to Read in Quebec anglophone schools.

This informal working session will focus on:

  • Connecting partners across Quebec who share similar concerns and goals
  • Discussing priorities and opportunities for advocacy
  • Sharing lessons learned from successful advocacy efforts in other provinces
  • Exploring how this group would like to organize and work together moving forward

Dyslexia Canada has supported advocacy networks in several provinces that have helped advance important changes in curriculum, screening, and literacy policy. We hope to support the development of a similar network in Quebec to help advance equitable access to evidence-aligned reading instruction for all students.

Date: May 20
Time: 7:00 p.m. EDT
Location: Virtual

Anyone interested in supporting equitable access to evidence-aligned reading instruction is welcome to attend.
