Understanding your child’s needs

To ensure your child closes the skill gap, it is important that the intervention they receive matches their greatest needs. The educator working with your child should use assessment data to determine which specific skills need to be targeted during intervention. 

The flow chart below can help you and your child’s teacher identify the specific skills to target through intervention. For children in grade 2 and younger, start at the bottom with Phonemic Awareness & Phonics and work your way up; for children in grade 3 and up start at the top with Reading Comprehension and work your way down.
